356 Buchanan Creek Road, Cow Bay Daintree QLD 4873

Set within a private clearing in the oldest rainforest in the world, 356 Buchanan Creek Road is a charming wood cabin that has been restored with real care and lived in with love. The home sits at the heart of its own 1.14 hectare block, surrounded by gardens and rainforest on every side, with views to Thornton Peak and Cow Bay Beach just 1.5km down the road.

The character announces itself from the first step onto the veranda. Horizontal timber walls, exposed timber window frames and vaulted ceilings give the home a warmth that is rarely found in modern construction, and a veranda wraps the whole way around, so every room opens to the forest and every season is lived outdoors. The mornings arrive with birdsong, and the evenings end around the fire pit beneath the stars.

The kitchen is the social heart of the house, with a large island, gas hob and breakfast bar made for cooking together and lingering over coffee. The master suite is a retreat in itself, with its own lounge, an en suite and a door opening onto a sunken bath on the veranda, where an evening soak comes with the sounds of the rainforest settling around you. The second bedroom is generously sized, the third is a comfortable double, and both are served by a shared bathroom with an integrated laundry.

Outside, the gardens have been lovingly tended and are a pleasure in their own right. The owners have recently cleared back some of the regrowth to uncover a garden to the side of the home, ideal for planting, along with a second tier the width of a driveway that loops around the north facing side and connects back to the front of the residence. A garden shed large enough for a ride on mower and a separate generator shed complete the grounds, with the balance of the land left to the rainforest, giving complete privacy without the burden of extensive maintenance.

The off grid infrastructure has been thoughtfully upgraded throughout. A 4.5kW solar system with Selectronic inverter and gel battery bank was professionally installed in 2020, with room on the roof to expand. Solar hot water was added in 2025, water is drawn from a bore with a recently serviced pump and stored in a new 5,000 litre tank, and a new generator was purchased this year for backup. An inground termite baiting system is installed, and Starlink provides high speed internet, so working from the veranda is as easy as working from any office.

The property currently runs as a profitable part time holiday let with great guest reviews, and is offered as is and fully furnished, so a new owner can continue right where the current owners have left off. It is equally suited to a permanent move, a weekend retreat, or a home that pays its way while you are away.

Cow Bay offers a lifestyle shaped by nature, space and a close knit community, with the beach at the end of the road and Mossman and Port Douglas within an hour's drive via the Daintree River ferry. Homes with this much character in a setting this peaceful rarely come to market.
