Cobar, NSW

Cobar is a lively and engaging community in the heart of NSW. The Shire’s prosperity is built around the thriving mining sector (copper, lead, silver, zinc, gold) and prosperous pastoral industry, both of which are strongly supported by local retail and health services.

Cobar Shire is situated at the crossroads of the Barrier Highway and the Kidman Way and has excellent road, rail and air links to most of Australia’s capital cities. With an area of 45,609 square kilometres, the Shire is approximately two-thirds the size of Tasmania. 

Cobar Shire is home to 4,650 people. Most of the population is concentrated in the town of Cobar, which is the service centre for the surrounding district which includes Cubba, Tindarey, Nymagee, Gilgunnia, Eremerang, Euabalong and Mt Hope.

The distance from Cobar to Sydney is 750 km, which is an eight-hour journey by car or a two-hour plane trip. A coach service is available to Dubbo, 300 km away, with connecting train and air services, along with chartered flights available.
