Imagine stepping onto the front verandah of 15 Smugglers Pass in Drummond Cove and feeling the salt air arrive before you have even closed the door behind you. The ocean sits just beyond the coastal scrub, a broad expanse of turquoise that shifts with the wind and the light, while cargo ships move slowly along the horizon like quiet markers of distance. This is the part of Drummond Cove that locals speak of with a particular fondness, the stretch where the houses sit close enough to the water that the sound of the waves becomes part of the daily rhythm. The location is special because it offers both the ease of a residential street and the constant presence of the sea.

The home itself is a generous three bedroom, two bathroom residence with a large kitchen and living spaces designed to open fully toward the outdoors. Tiled floors run throughout the main areas, catching the coastal light and making the rooms feel cool and expansive even on warm days. Large windows and sliding doors frame the ocean views from multiple rooms, so the water is never far from sight whether you are preparing a meal, sitting down to dinner, or simply pausing in the hallway. The scale of the main living area means there is room for family life to spread out without constraint.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

From that living space the house opens directly onto a massive paved undercover alfresco area that becomes an outdoor room in its own right. The terracotta tiles stretch wide beneath a solid roof supported by brick pillars, creating a sheltered zone large enough for long tables, scattered lounges, or the simple pleasure of standing barefoot while the afternoon breeze moves through. Plants soften the edges and the garden beyond continues the coastal planting with bougainvillea, native shrubs, and the distinctive shapes of yuccas. This is where mornings begin with coffee and the sound of the surf, and where evenings stretch on as the light fades across the water.

Inside, the kitchen is practical and well proportioned, with cream cabinetry, a tiled splash back, and space enough for more than one person to work at once. Windows look out toward the garden and the distant ocean, so the view remains part of the cooking process rather than something you have to step away to find. Nearby bedrooms enjoy the same connection to the coast, with windows that frame the water and the coastal vegetation. One room opens toward the alfresco, making it easy to move between indoor rest and outdoor living as the day changes.

The bathrooms are clean and functional, finished in light tones that keep the coastal feeling consistent. One includes a bath beneath a window, offering a quiet place to soak while the light shifts outside. Throughout the house the air conditioning units are discreetly placed, ready to temper the warmer days while the large openings allow the sea breeze to do much of the work when the weather is kind. The overall effect is a home that feels both solid and open, ready for the life that coastal living invites.

Outside, the gardens wrap the property in a mix of color and texture. Bright pink and red bougainvillea spill over rocks and paths, while native shrubs and grasses fill the spaces between. A covered side area and the broad front verandah provide further places to sit and watch the street or the distant water. The block itself sits within easy reach of the beach and the coastal walkways, so a short stroll brings you to the sand and the reef pools that appear at low tide. This proximity is part of what makes the location so sought after: the ocean is not a weekend destination but a daily companion.

Picture the lifestyle that settles in once the house becomes home. Mornings might begin on the alfresco with the sun rising over the water and the first fishing boats heading out. Weekends can involve the short walk to the beach for a swim or a surf, then a return to the undercover area where wet towels dry in the breeze and the kettle is always close. Friends arrive and stay longer than planned because the outdoor space absorbs them easily and the views give conversation a natural pause. The three bedrooms allow for family or guests without crowding, while the large living areas keep everyone connected or give them room to retreat.

There is also the quiet luxury of watching the weather change. Storms roll in from the ocean and the light turns dramatic; clear days bring that particular West Australian blue that makes the water look almost unreal. From the bay windows and the alfresco the shifts are constant yet never noisy. The ships pass, the waves break on the reef, and the coastal vegetation moves with the wind. Over time the house becomes the place where these small observations gather into a sense of belonging to the coast rather than merely living near it.

Evenings here carry their own invitation. As the light softens the alfresco remains comfortable under its roof, and the living areas glow with the last of the day. Meals can be prepared inside and carried outside in a single easy movement. The sound of the waves continues as a low constant, and on still nights the stars appear bright above the water. It is the kind of setting that encourages longer conversations, slower walks along the coast, and the simple decision to stay outside a little longer than you intended.

Over the years the property rewards the attention given to it. The gardens thicken and color deepens with each season. The alfresco becomes organised around the way you actually live: a favorite chair angled toward the best view, a table that expands for gatherings, pots of herbs close to the kitchen door. What begins as an impressive set of features the ocean outlook, the generous living spaces, the undercover outdoor room settles into something more personal. It becomes the place that supports a life measured in sunrises, swims, and the everyday pleasure of being close to the water.

This is a home for people who value both the convenience of a well set out three bedroom residence and the particular character of Drummond Cove's most sought after coastal pocket. It is for the family who wants the beach within easy reach, the couple who has dreamed of ocean light at the end of the day, or the individual who simply wants the sound of the waves as a daily backdrop. At 15 Smugglers Pass the views are already here, the spaces are already generous, and the lifestyle they support is ready for the next chapter you bring to it.
