About the Sunshine Coast region
This region is located in Queensland's south-east, about 100 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD. It stretches from the coastal locale of Caloundra in the south to the Great Sandy National Park in the north, and is bordered in the west by the regions of Wide Bay Burnett and Ipswich & West Moreton.
The Sunshine Coast is a tourist's dream. The region is home to the popular holiday destinations of Noosa and Fraser Island, but is also full of quaint villages, iconic surf spots and pristine rural hinterland that are sure to charm any visitor.
The region was originally inhabited by the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi people, an Indigenous group made up of several smaller tribes.

Climate information
The Sunshine Coast enjoys a subtropical climate, with warm, humid summers and cool, dry winters. The mean maximum temperature in summer is 25.5 °C, dropping to a mean minimum of 15.9 °C in winter.
The region receives an average 1455 mm of rainfall annually, which occurs primarily during the summer and early autumn months of January-April.

The estimated population of the Sunshine Coast region is reported as 384,301 as of 2019.
Education
The Sunshine Coast is home to a number of excellent kindergartens, pre-schools, primary schools and secondary schools for parents to choose from when picking a school for their children.
Students planning to undertake tertiary studies have the option of studying at the University of Sunshine Coast or the Central Queensland University, both of which have campuses in the region. There are also a number of TAFE campuses for those pursuing vocational fields, located at Birtinya, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Nambour.
Employment and local businesses
The Sunshine Coast has a Gross Regional Product of $20.37 billion, and is home to 175,637 local jobs.
The region's economy has historically been supported predominantly by the industries of tourism, leisure, construction and retail. However, the sectors of education, agribusiness, aviation and clean technologies are growing in their importance to the Sunshine Coast's economy.

The median house price in the Sunshine Coast Council is $595,130, while the Noosa Shire Council's median sits at $690,028. Both are well above the Queensland median of $458,360, highlighting the popularity of this region's property market.
The Sunshine Coast Council had a median weekly house rental (for a 3-bedroom home) of $490, and the Noosa Shire Council a median of $550, both significantly above the state average.

When: Annually, in May
What: This colourful music festival has only been on the scene for 7 years, but it has already made quite a splash in the Sunshine Coast music scene. It features a diverse line-up of music from Aussie and international musicians across its five stages, blasting rock, indie, hip-hop and dance tunes till late. Roaming local artists and street performers will also charm spectators with their busking performances.

When: Annually, in late February and early March (although the 2021 event will be held in May)
What: For nine days every summer, the laid-back beach locale of Noosa plays host to a festival celebrating the region's long history as a celebrated surf destination. The event kicks off with a visit from the World Surfing League, bringing with them some of the world's best longboarders to compete on the Noosa Main Beach for all to see. For those who prefer to sit on the sand and spectate, there will be live music, art shows, charity dinners and even dog surfing!

When: Annually, in March
What: Set in the home of Australia triathlons and the ultimate holiday paradise, Mooloolaba offers competitors six great races to suit every skill set and age group. The event is held on the scenic beaches and coastal roads of the Sunshine Coast suburb, an exquisite location for this high-energy competition.
