About the Goldfields Esperance region
This region is Western Australia's largest. It takes up about one-third (771,276 km²) of the state's land, making it more than three times the size of the state of Victoria. The region is made up of the shires located in WA's south-east. It is bordered to the east by the NT and SA borders, to the west by the regions of Mid West Gascoyne, Wheatbelt and Great Southern, and to the south by the Southern Ocean.
Goldfield Esperance is home to the regional commercial centres of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance.

This WA region experiences a climate of hot, dry summers and cool, dry winters. Temperatures in summer can frequently reach 40 °C, but typically hover around an average of 33 °C. During winter, average maximum temperatures are around 16° C, and the temperature occasionally dips below freezing at night.
Average annual rainfall is typically around 250 mm.

Education
The Goldfields Esperance region plays host to numerous kindergartens, pre-schools, primary and secondary schools for parents to choose between.
Students wishing to complete tertiary studies can do so at the Western Australian School of Mines (a branch of Curtin University) in Kalgoorlie, or at either of the region's TAFE campuses, located in Kalgoorlie and Esperance.

The Goldfields Esperance region has a Gross Regional Product of $9.8 billion, and is home to 30,984 local jobs. The region's top five industries by number of people employed are mining, healthcare & social assistance, retail, education & training, and transport, postal & warehousing.
Mining — particularly gold and nickel mining — is by far the region's most important sector, employing a third of its total workforce. It is also a notable producer agricultural goods, namely wheat and barley.

What: The charming annual fair at Kalgoorie-Boulder is the epitome of a community event, bringing residents from the area together to celebrate their unique outback lifestyle. Local businesses and community groups come along to promote their organisations and raise money by running activities, there's plenty of good food and drink to be consumed, and a number of competitions and events are on offer over the two days to cater to all interests.

When: Annually, on the third Sunday in September
What: This hisorical festival celebrates the anniversary of the unearthing of gold at what is now known as Coolgardie. The 1892 discovery was what sparked the greatest gold rush in Australian history, and also what put the mining town of Coolgardie (and, later, Kalgoorie) on the map. There is something for everyone at this event, from parades and live music to food stalls and even vintage car displays.

What: Kicking off on Australia Day every year, the Sunset at the Soundshell concerts brings people together for three amazing nights of music. In addition to a Battle of the Bands event, which showcases the freshest talent of the Goldfields Esperance region, Sunset and the Soundshell always features outstanding Aussie headliner bands such as Eskimo Joe and Kingswood.
