About the South Coast region
This region of NSW is located in its south-eastern corner, bounded by the Southern Inland region to the west, the Illawarra region to the north, the Victorian state border to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the east. It is home to the key regional centres of Berry, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Bega and Merimbula, and countless other smaller coastal localities.
The region boasts 400 km of pristine coastline along with dozens of National Park areas and marine parks, and as such is one of NSW's most popular tourist hotspots.
The South Coast region is traditionally Yuin country, and there is still a strong Aboriginal cultural presence in the region.

NSW's South Coast region includes 3 municipalities: Bega Valley Shire Council, Eurobodalla Shire Council, and Shoalhaven City Council.
Climate information
The South Coast region is known for its temperate, mild climate. It experiences an average maximum temperature of about 27 °C in summer, while winter minimums range between 1-12 °C.
The region receives between 600-1000 mm of rainfall annually, on average.
Population
The estimated population of the South Coast region is reported as 172,650 as of 2016.
Education
There are numerous primary and secondary schools located across the region, with both public and private options available for parents to choose between.
Those who wish to pursue tertiary qualifications may choose to study in the region at the University of Wollongong, which has a number of campuses in the area, or at one of the many campuses of TAFE NSW also located in the South Coast.
Employment and local businesses
Between Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and the Bega Valley, the South Coast region has a Gross Regional Product of approximately $9.3 billion. The region's top five industries by number of people employed are construction, agriculture, forestry & fishing, rental, hiring & real estate, retail, and professional, scientific & technical services.
Housing
Median house prices vary across the South Coast region, from $494,905 in Eurobodalla to $498,019 in Bega Valley and $604,837 in Shoalhaven. All of these are below the NSW median, although Shoalhaven is approaching the median.
The region has a median weekly house rental (for a 3-bedroom home) of $600 in Eurobodalla, $390 in Bega Valley and $420 in Shoalhaven. While Bega Valley and Shoalhaven have rental prices below the NSW median, Eurobodalla's is well above the median.

When: Annually, in February
What: Marvel at incredible displays of dressage prowess over nine days at the Dressage by the Sea, an equestrian event of great prestige held annually at Willinga Park. The skills of both horse and rider are tested in this performance of movement, with a total of over $60,000 in prize money available across the two main events. Market stalls offer a selection of food, drink and equestrian gear to be purchased as well, making for a relaxed but exciting weekend.

When: Annually, in December and January
What: For a full month every summer, you can enjoy the good old-fashioned rides of the Huskisson Carnival. Running annually between Boxing Day and January 26th, the carnival provides endless fun in a varied selection of rides. From the Hurricane and the Claw to the Hurricane and Dodgem Cars, it’s almost impossible to choose what to ride first. Kids are also welcome, and there are rides for them too: merry-go-rounds, bungee jumping, jumping castles, and more.

What: Celebrate folk music, dancing, poetry, and art every spring at the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival. The festival invites visitors to enjoy a weekend filled with concerts, workshops, and feasts, as well as a variety of market stalls and bars for food and drink. There’s so much to do and see at this festival for everyone, regardless of age, so don’t forget to save the date!
