This region of South Australia is named for the great expanse of the Murray River that snakes through it, from Renmark in the north to Murray Bridge and the Coorong in the south. It is bordered by the Adelaide metropolitan area to the west and the state of Victoria to the east, and offers proximity to both Adelaide and the regional centre of Mildura.
The economy of the Murraylands and Riverland region is mostly based on primary production and processing. What: This one-day rock festival, which is held just an hour and a half out of Adelaide on the banks of the picturesque Murray River, is a treat for music fans young and old. Sounds by the River is known for its outstanding line-ups, which have historically featured Aussie rock legends such as Jimmy Barnes, The Angels, Mental As Anything and others artists of a similar calibre.

What: Renmark's floral festival has been enchanting visitors from South Australia for over 25 years, and it's not hard to tell why. Every year for the ten days of the festival, Riverland locals open their manicured gardens and allow members of the public to take in the magnificent scenery. The festival begins with the inaugural Festival Fair, where visitors can explore stalls selling crafts, food, plants and other goodies in the Jarrett Memorial Gardens, and concludes with the lavish Gala Dinner.

What: The Australian HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) Super Series — or the 'Pedal Prix', as it is known to South Australians — is an annual event sponsored by UniSA. Contestants must build and race their own vehicles, testing both their engineering skills and their physical fitness. The thrilling endurance race at Murray Bridge concludes the series and typically draws around 35,000 spectators, who come to cheer on the teams taking part in the 24-hour challenge.
