About the Northern Inland region
This NSW region occupies nearly 100,000 km² of land in the state's north-east, and is home to the major regional centres of Tamworth and Armidale. The region is strategically located midway between the capital cities of Sydney and Brisbane. It features a diverse host of landscapes, from cities and built-up areas to National Parks and expansive stretches of countryside.

NSW's Nothern Inland region includes 12 municipalities: Armidale Regional Council, Glen Innes Severn Council, Gunnedah Shire Council, Gwydir Shire Council, Inverell Shire Council, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Moree Plains Shire Council, Narrabri Shire Council, Tamworth Regional Council, Tenterfield Shire Council, Uralla Shire Council and Walcha Council.
Climate information
Climate conditions vary across the Northern Inland region. In Armidale, the average maximum temperature in summer is 24 °C and the average minimum temperature in winter is 15 °C, while in Tamworth the summer max is 29 °C and the winter min 19 °C.
The region receives between 350-1200 mm of rainfall annually, on average; rainfall is hugely variable and is far more common in the parts of the region that are closer to the coast than the parts further inland.

The estimated population of the Northern Inland region is reported as 187,154 as of 2019.
Education
The Northern Inland region is home to an impressive range of education facilities, including pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, and universities. It boasts 89 public & 32 private primary schools, 17 public & 13 private high schools, and 70 early learning/childcare facilities.
Those who wish to go on to pursue tertiary qualifications can study at the University of New England, which is the oldest regional university in Australia and a very prestigious institution, or at any of the region's 11 TAFE campuses.
Employment and local businesses
The Northern Inland region has a Gross Regional Product of about $13.7 billion, and is home to more than 75,000 local jobs. The region's top five industries by number of people employed are agriculture, forestry & fishing, healthcare & social assistance, education & training, retail, and accommodation & food services. Agricultural production is the cornerstone of the region's economy, although some of its larger cities (including Tamworth and Armidale) are gradually moving towards a more diversified economy based on household consumption.

Median house price varies across this region of NSW, ranging from $377,500 in Tamworth to $365,000 in Armidale. Both values are slightly below the median for the state.
The region has a median weekly house rental (for a 3-bedroom home) of $335 in Tamworth and $360 in Armidale, both of which are below the NSW median.

What: Inviting both buskers and professional artists to perform, the Tamworth Country Music Festival hosts a wide variety of live performances and is the world’s second largest celebration of country music. The festival is always packed, with hundreds of thousands attending every year. Getting a ticket and a place to stay is notoriously difficult – hotel rooms are often booked up a year in advance – so make sure to beat the crowds and make your bookings now!

What: Join this small town for their annual rodeo, a family friendly event with a number of activities. In addition to the drawcard events, spectators are welcome to take part in the Barrel Racing competition or enjoy performances by the local trick riding team. The exciting day closes with a DJ and a barbecue, with a licensed bar on site.
