About the Riverina region
This region of NSW is located in the central to southern reaches of the state, and occupies more than 80,000 km² of land. It consists of a diverse range of landscapes, from the foothills of the Snowy Mountains to the flat inland plains of Hay and Carathool and the banks of the majestic Murray River. The Riverina region is home to the major regional cities of Wagga Wagga and Griffith, along with a host of smaller towns and communities.
The region is the traditional home of the people of the Wiradjuri, Nari-Nari, Mudi-Mudi, Gurendji, Yida-Yida, Bangerang, Yorta-Yorta, Baraba-Baraba, Wamba-Wamba, Wadi-Wadi and Dadi-Dadi communities.

The Riverina region experiences a semi-arid climate, characterised by hot summers and cool winters. The maximum average monthly temperature hovers around 30.6-33.7° C, while the minimum average monthly temperature sits at 2.2-4.6 °C

Population
The estimated population of the Riverina region is reported as 171,598 as of 2019.
Education
The Riverina region is home to a number of pre-schools, primary schools and secondary schools, giving parents a variety of choice when it comes to deciding where to send their children.
Residents who hope to undertake tertiary studies can do so at Charles Sturt University, which has a campus at Wagga Wagga, or at one of the region's numerous TAFE NSW campuses.
Employment and local businesses
The Riverina region has a Gross Regional Product of approximately $12.6 billion, and supports about 75,000 local jobs. The region's top five industries by number of people employed are agriculture, forestry & fishing, healthcare & social assistance, manufacturing, retail, and education & training. This region is immensely important for agricultural production, and is responsible for producing a quarter of NSW's fresh fruit and vegetables.

What: The Wagga Wagga Gold Cup Racing Carnival is a prestigious horse-racing event for top jockeys and trainers, and an exciting day out for the fashionable crowd as they take on the 'fashions on the field' competitions. The programme boasts an impressive eight races alongside the Gold Cup, with a variety of trackside marquees available for alternative entertainment. A live band and an exquisite champagne bar turns a perfect day at the races into an even better evening.

When: Annually, on Easter Saturday
What: Every Easter Sunday, locals and visitors alike flock to Griffith's Jondaryan Avenue for the Griffith Vintage Festival, a charming annual winetasting event. While it is predominantly a showcase of Riverina wineries, you can enjoy beer and cider at the festival too, all accompanied by local food and live music. Brighten up your winter with a day out at this not-to-be-missed festival.

When: Annually, in October
What: A themed selection of Australia’s ex-military aircraft are exhibited at the Temora Aviation Museum Weekend Showcase annually. All the aircraft are serviceable, meaning that the showcase promises a series of flying displays accompanied by informative commentary. Guests can also tour the static exhibition and enjoy engineering workshops and pilot meet-and-greets during this weekend of high-flying, family-friendly fun.
